Print and electronic books — a new policy

As an avid reader, I keep several titles going at once, and I almost always have a book with me. I love print editions of books, of course, but I also love reading on my Kindle and iPad. What I dislike is when the book I want to read is not with me; I only brought my Kindle, for example, and the title I want is a print book. If only I could have all of my books in every format!

Kalos Press, and our partner/parent organization, Doulos Resources, have decided to do something about this — at least in our little corner of the publishing world. At the annual meeting of the Doulos Resources Board of Directors, it was decided that we would provide electronic copies in any format, for free, to anyone who purchases a print copy of our titles. This is true effective immediately for all non-curriculum titles from both Kalos Press and Doulos Resources.

Starting with Margie Haack's forthcoming memoir, The Exact Place, an announcement to this effect with grace the back page of every book, along with a "QR" (Quick Response) Code to link to a download page. Gradually, we intend to "upgrade" our other titles (except the curricula) to include this announcement, as well. Here's the announcement from the back of The Exact Place:

"At Kalos Press, we’ve found that we often appreciate owning both print and digital editions of the books we read; perhaps you have found this as well. In our gratitude to you for purchasing a print version of this book, we are pleased to offer you free copies of the digital editions of The Exact Place. To obtain one or more of these, follow the link embedded in the Quick Response (QR) Code below. Thank you for your support!"

We plan to offer PDF, ePub, and Kindle/Mobipocket editions of nearly all of our books through this plan — even for titles that you cannot buy in all of those formats! We think this is a cutting-edge and "open" approach to new media in publishing.

Have a copy of Winter Light in print, and want it in electronic format too? Contact us for more information about how to take advantage of this offer!
