The Exact Place — endorsement #6 (Byron Borger)

Here is another great endorsement for The Exact Place, a memoir from Margie Haack.

Byron Borger is known and beloved to many as the writer/reviewer behind BookNotes, one of the best sources for information about Christian books and books of interest to Christians. He is also the proprietor of Hearts & Minds Books, an online and brick-and-mortar bookstore which maintains an independent spirit and a lively, impressive inventory. Byron and Hearts & Minds have been very kind and supportive to Kalos Press, and have also been long-time colleagues of Denis and Margie Haack through Ransom Fellowship.

Byron was kind enough to take some time to read an advance copy of The Exact Place, and also to offer an endorsement. As Margie remarked, "Byron has read about a million books in his lifetime, and for him to say this about mine is an honor I can't quite comprehend." True enough.

Here is Byron's wonderful endorsement:

Margie Haack is a great storyteller and this book collects some fabulously entertaining bits from her childhood on a small Minnesota farm — nicely told, sometimes tragic, filled with deep pathos, still with an eye to beauty, but also good humor and a considerable passel of shenanigans (she brought her horse into the kitchen to eat pickles? She caught fish bigger than herself? She used bag balm? Don't ask.) Yet, with a sense of God's redemptive purposes played out over a lifetime of rural poverty and a harsh upbringing, these tales form a memoir of note, ruminating on an unusually vivid life in what for some will feel like another world. It is not a cliche to say that this book is written with grit and grace. Move over Garrison Keillor, this is one Minnesota mama you don't want to mess with.

Thank you Byron!
